[Grimm still didn't know how it had happened that when he returned to Hallownest, he returned at the point in time the Knight and the Hollow Knight were from - after the Ritual had been completed and he had died. With Grimmchild now fully capable of taking over the responsibilities of the troupe, Grimm had what he thought he never would have in his life: freedom to do whatever he wanted. To go to lands that were not dead or dying.

Of course, it was much simpler to travel to a world that had called for his services. But the Nightmare Realm connects many places, and if you know whose dream you're looking for, eventually you'll get there.

Grimm arrives mid-nightmare, of course. A similar one to that which he's seen before, except this time, he catches the pot of boiling water in the air before it can scald Shouto.]

[The dream isn't new. Sure, details change here and there, but the bones of it--the bones of his trauma--those are always the same. There's always his father, always his mother, he's always small and all but helpless, and there's always the kettle. The heat, the searing cold, the screams, the sobs, the loneliness and anger and fear.

But this--this is new. The kettle never hits. And when he opens his eyes, Shouto sees someone he'd started to think he'd only dreamed.

No one else remembered. No one else believed him. And so he hadn't talked about it, had passed it off as a dream, something he'd read online and fallen into. But here he was.]

...Grimm?

[The voice matches his shape, small, shaky, tear-stained, childlike. He's just a child. But he knows this shape. And before he can even think, he's hurling himself at that winged figure, not even caring if he hits the ground.]

[He doesn't hit the ground - Grimm won't allow it, and it would take more than a child's strength to knock him over anyway. The kettle disappears as Grimm wraps his arms and wings around Shouto, holding him close.

He's as warm as ever.]
